Health club membership growth slows in Germany

Deloitte has issued its latest analysis of results for the German health and fitness market, showing membership growth of the 15 selected operators has fallen to 3 per cent in the first quarter of 2005, compared to 6 per cent for the same period last year.

Non-franchised clubs experienced a 2 per cent decrease in growth compared to 6 per cent the previous year, with three new openings and two club closings.

Meanwhile, franchised clubs saw a 4 per cent decrease compared to 7 per cent the previous year with six new openings in the first quarter of 2005, but no club closings.
