14 Jul 2005 New theatres for the RSC |
![]() The Royal Shakespeare Company (RSC) is to expand its theatre venues in Stratford-upon-Avon as part of its year-long festival The Complete Works, which starts in April 2006. The Courtyard Theatre, which is scheduled to open in July next year, will be built as an extension to The Other Place studio theatre, which in turn will be transformed to house new foyer space, a cloakroom and bar areas. Designed by Ian Ritchie Architects, the new building will feature a thrust-stage auditorium. A new outdoor theatre to be called The Dell is also planned for the RSC’s riverside gardens, while a new temporary 100-seat studio theatre – which will host small-scale, multi-media shows – will be set up inside the Royal Shakespeare Theatre’s (RST) auditorium. After the festival, The Courtyard Theatre will act as the RSC’s main venue while the RST is refurbished, but it will close in 2009 when this is complete. Close Window |
