Marriott to expand Renaissance Clubsport brand

Marriott International has announced plans to develop 15 Renaissance ClubSport sites in the US within five to seven years.

The brand – which is a partnership between Marriott’s boutique-style Renaissance Hotels and Steve Gilmour’s Leisure Sport – was first launched in 2002 with a property in Walnut Creek, California, where the health club now has 9,000 members.

New Clubsport Hotels are currently under development in Aliso Viejo, California; Chandler, Phoenix and Rockville, Washington.

Each new property will feature a 150-250-room hotel, 75,000sq ft (7,000sq m) of fitness facilities and a 4,000sq ft (370sq m) R Spa.

Michael E Jannini, Marriott’s executive vice president – brand management, said: “Renaissance Clubsport has the potential to redefine the idea of the country club for the 21st century.”
