![]() Health club members in the US who take exercise to treat specific health conditions are now eligible for tax deductions. Doctor-prescribed exercise programmes for conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, hypertension and obesity are now considered a tax-deductible ‘qualified medical expense’ by the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). Members may not deduct the cost of membership, but the move is being seen as a great incentive for health clubs to develop targeted, disease-specific programming to treat such conditions.
