![]() Europe’s largest hotel group, Accor, has posted a 7.9 per cent rise in sales, boosted by growth in its budget hotels and services business. The France-based group, which operates the Ibis, Sofitel and Mercure chains, said in a statement that turnover for the year ending 31 December 2005 was 7.62bn euro (US$9.37bn, £5.23bn) – up from 7.06bn euro (US$9.37bn, £4.84bn) in 2004. During the year, Accor opened 182 new hotels – adding 23,632 rooms to its property protfolio. The group now operates 4,065 hotels with 475,433 rooms in 140 countries.
