06 Mar 2006 Shangri-La’s lone traveller scheme |
![]() Shangri-La Hotels & Resorts has launched ‘Interactions’ at the Shangri-La Hotel, Dubai – a dining scheme aimed specifically at lone business travellers looking for conversation and company over dinner. An expatriate member of the hotel’s management team will arrange and entertain dinner parties of between one and 10 guests staying alone at the hotel. Each night a different restaurant is allocated for the three-course dining experience and each guest receives their own bill. The hotel’s director of communications, Sharon Garrett, said: “This is not a structured gathering – it’s designed to be fun and allow social, business and dining interactions with people in similar circumstances. I think it will be especially popular with our female business travellers.” If successful the group will extend the concept to other hotels around the world. Elsewhere, the 168-room, sea-facing Shangri-La Barr Al Jissah Resort in Oman opened last month. When the separate but linked CHI Spa Village is completed in May, the resort facilities will include a spa with 12 private villas, three fresh-water swimming pools, 19 eating outlets, two bars and a nightclub. Four tennis courts, an Omani heritage village, an open-air amphitheatre seating up to 1,000 people, a dedicated marina and dive centre, an archeological site open to visitors and a myriad of water sports including dolphin and whale watching will also be available. The Asian Pacific hotel group currently manages 47 hotels under the five-star Shangri-La and four-star Traders brands. The group has more than 40 projects currently under development worldwide.
