Dubai-based real estate company Emaar Properties has announced plans to develop an AED6.7bn (£1bn, US$1.88bn, 1.44bn euro) marina project in Sousse, Tunisia. The 442-hectare Marina Al Qussor resort will feature six hotels; a spa resort; an 18-hole golf course clubhouse and a driving range; a sports club and beach clubs. The resort will centre around the Marina Village, which will comprise a 400-berth marina and a yacht club, shops, restaurants and apartments. More than 4,000 residential units will also be developed in line with Tunisia’s strategy to encourage high-end tourists and longer stays. The project is at the planning phase and a construction date is yet to be announced. Elsewhere, Emaar has officially opened the Dubai Polo & Equestrian Club in Dubai. The club provides a full-service equestrian centre featuring a Spanish-style clubhouse with lounge and dining areas, a riding gear shop, a spa and a swimming pool. Members can watch polo matches, practice their own polo skills or take riding lessons. Emaar announced record first quarter results for 2006. Net profit reached AED1.5bn (£230m, US$408m, 330m euro) – a 14 per cent increase on 2005. Annual profits for 2005 also reached record levels at AED4.7bn (£720m, US$1.3bn, 1bn euro).
