Sacred City of Caral has reopened to tourists visiting Peru

The Sacred City of Caral in Peru, South America, has re-opened to tourists following extensive archeological restoration work carried out by the Proyecto Especial Arqueólogico Caral-Supe (Caral-Supe Special Archeological Project).

Visitors can now tour the sacred city’s residential and public housing areas, pyramids, sunken circular plazas, temples and altars to understand how the hierarchical system of the Caral civilization influenced their way of life.

The Sacred City of Caral in Peru – the oldest city in the Americas – was discovered as recently as 1994. Details: www.caralperu.pe
