RSS Playmakers blazing a trail

RSS Playmakers has completed the first ever installation of its new Trailblazer NRG system at a school.

The Archbishop Cranmer Church of England Community Primary School in Taunton, Somerset, has joined an extensive list of public playgrounds which have taken on the new system.

Trailblazer - awarded the prestigious BSI Kitemark award - was chosen by Archbishop Cranmer as a modern alternative to timber play equipment, as it is manufactured from dramatic structural steel and features distinctive arches and support posts.

The system has been specifically developed to address the motivational needs of children and to encourage maximum activity and energy expenditure. It is ideal for developing co-operation and team work and can be used in organised sessions as part of the National Curriculum.

Children in years 3-6 use the equipment at playtimes and lunchtimes and the school is currently considering how it will fit in with the PE curriculum next term.

Trailblazer NRG, which is based on a 'trail system' of linked activities, includes twenty-one dynamic components offering a huge variety of different configurations.

The system demands greater concentration and stamina due to the need for movement across and between the challenges, and completing the trail is reported to give children a great sense of achievement.
