Starbucks to expand in Germany

Starbucks is looking to expand in Germany from 67 outlets to 100 by the end of next year, according to the Financial Times Deutschland.

The world’s largest speciality coffee chain, which operates more than 11,700 sites globally, had planned to operate 180 outlets in Germany by the end of 2007, but a deal with joint venture partner KarstadtQuelle fell through.

Starbucks will now handle its German growth on its own and is reportedly considering co-operation with bookshops, train stations and airports.

The head of Starbucks’ German operations, Cornelius Everke, told FT Deutschland that the company is “only at the beginning” of its expansion in the country. Details: www.starbucks.de
