Free gym at Israel’s activity beach

A free-of-charge activity beach has recently opened in Herzlia, Israel, to encourage beachgoers to engage in more physical activity during their leisure time.

Mei Eden Beach, which is sponsored by Eden Waters and run by the University of Tel Aviv and Unisport, offers gym equipment – from Precor’s Icarian Line strength range – alongside cardiovascular activities such as running, swimming, walking, ball games and Frisbee.

Mei Eden is inspired by similar projects elsewhere in the world, such as Muscle Beach in Los Angeles, US but, rather than being aimed at elite body builders, it is designed to appeal to the general public.

“Since its opening, the activity beach has also encouraged sporting institutions and companies to organise more events at the beach, creating a central focus for the local community,” said Dr Barak Yercham of the University of Tel Aviv.
