Tourism travel patterns focus on British beaches

VisitBritain has released an analysis of its research into the different travel patterns of international visitors and UK residents in 2005 when visiting Britain’s towns and cities.

Although there has been change in the top five most popular cities for inbound visitors – namely, London, Edinburgh, Manchester, Birmingham and Glasgow – all have seen visitor number increases since 2000. Two other cities – Newcastle and Nottingham – also saw significant increases while visits to Liverpool have more than doubled in the past five years.

Meanwhile, eight of the top 20 domestic resident destinations are beach-orientated, compared to only one in the inbound visitor league table. Details: www.visitbritain.com
