Leicestershire County Council (LCC) has officially unveiled a new gallery at the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre,Sutton Cheney, near Market Bosworth. The attraction boasts a range of archaeological objects uncovered at the nearby 15th century battlefield site, which was the scene for the penultimate battle of the War of the Roses in 1485. Efforts to reveal the true location of the battlefield - led by LCC and the Battlefield Trust and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund - also feature as part of the new interactive gallery. LCC chair Roger Wilson said: "This is a gallery where visitors can try their hand at the latest techniques used in battlefield archaeology, and where they can see some of the amazing finds from Bosworth's unique collection." Battlefields Trust project officer Glenn Foard added: "Bosworth has shown the potential of archaeology to contribute to our understanding of the Origins of Firepower - a story of international significance which must now be explored on battlefields across Europe."
