$3bn Serrenia development underway in Egypt

Vantage Real Estate has started work on site at the Serrenia mixed-use development on the Red Sea coast in Sahl Hasheesh, Egypt.

The US$3bn (£1.5bn, 2.3bn euro) scheme comprises a 2.5 million sq m (27 million sq ft) residential community, which will include a seven-star hotel featuring 200 bedrooms, a casino and a nightclub.

ESPA at Serrenia will offer separate male and female thermal suites with multi-room, multi-temperature steam baths, saunas, cold plunge pools, indoor Zen relaxation areas and outdoor relaxation gardens, plus fitness activities such as yoga, pilates and meditation.

Sports facilities will include tennis and squash courts, a 330-berth marina and Yacht Club, as well as a family waterpark.

The resort's 18-hole golf course, par 72 (7,100 yards), will feature two loops of nine holes, as well as a clubhouse and golf academy. Construction is due to commence this summer, with the course opening in summer 2009. The resort design – by London architects Foster & Partners – will feature a series of lagoons and canals to create a sense of tranquillity.

Vantage chair Khaled Shaheen said: “Ground breaking marks a significant step in the creation of Serrenia. We will surpass all expectations, and provide a development of the highest quality for the most discerning buyers. Achieving client confidence is a reflection of our philosophy and work ethic.” Details: www.serrenia.com
