02 Apr 2007 Grand Canyon Skywalk opens to the public BY Tom Walker |
The Grand Canyon Skywalk in Grand Canyon West, Nevada, US, has officially opened to the public. The visitor attraction, which is owned and operated by the Hualapai Tribe, offers guests views over the canyon through its glass walkway. Rising more than 4,000ft (1,220m) from the canyon's floor and 70ft (20m) beyond its rim, the Skywalk is being described as an engineering first. A maximum of 120 people will be allowed on the bridge at a time and each visitor will be asked to wear protective footwear to avoid damage to the glass.
The site also includes a café and restaurant with an outdoor patio and rooftop seating, as well as meeting and wedding facilities. Details: www.destinationgrandcanyon.com
