Universal City Dubailand launched

Developer Tatweer – part of Dubai Holding – has unveiled its AED 8bn (£1bn, US$2.2bn, 1.6bn euro) Universal City Dubailand complex in Dubai, UAE.

The 22 million sq ft (2 million sq m) complex – set within the existing mixed-use Dubailand resort – will comprise 4,000 hotel rooms, 100 restaurants and retail outlets.

The centre of the new development will feature a 6.5 million sq ft (604,000sq m) Universal Studios Dubailand theme park, comprising a Hollywood zone, Metropolis zone and Adventure zone.

Saeed Al Muntafiq, executive chair of Tatweer, said: “There is no doubt that the new project will contribute to highlighting Dubai as a global tourist destination, providing the tourism sector – one of Dubai’s most active sectors – with a strong drive to further diversify the economy.”

Universal Studios currently feature in Los Angeles and Orlando, US, and Tokyo, Japan.
