02 Sep 2010 Weston Pier Square 'nearing completion' BY Pete Hayman |
![]() North Somerset Council (NSC) has announced that the majority of work on a multi-million pound overhaul of Weston-super-Mare's Pier Square will be complete by the end of the month. Construction work on the final phase of the £3.9m scheme got underway in February this year, which has included the restoration of the Coalbrookdale fountain and the repaving of the square. NSC and the South West Regional Development Agency have helped fund the improvements, which aim to improve links between the town centre and the seafront, including the resort's redeveloped Grand Pier. Elfan Ap Rees, the council's executive member for strategic planning, said: "Foundations for the fountain are being dug and the tank put in. The refurbishment off-site of the fountain is nearly complete and I expect it to be installed by the end of September. "We are coming into the final furlong of this project which will see another area of our town transformed for the better." Close Window |
