Beachfront spa opens at Fijian island resort

The Baravi Spa has opened as part of the exclusive Yasawa Island Resort, located on the island of Yasawa in the Fijian archipelago in the South Pacific.

Situated on the beachfront, and drawing its name from the Fijian word for beach, the thatched-roof spa combines traditional and contemporary styles with guests benefiting from stunning views of the ocean.

Therapies include a choice of four different massages, facials and wraps. The signature massage is the Baravi Rhythm, performed by two therapists working in rhythm with the sound of the nearby waves.

Other treatments have been sourced from around the world and then combined with local Fijian products. For example, the hot rock therapy uses black volcanic pebbles, while the body wraps use banana leaves grown in the surrounding villages.

Body scrubs using sand from the nearby Vula Walu beach are another speciality of the spa.

Yasawa Island Resort is privately owned by Garth and Maggie Downey and consists of 19 luxury bungalows. It can be reached by seaplane or charter flight from Nadi International Airport on the Fijian mainland.
