Science North's CEO to step down

Jim Marchbank, CEO of the Science North science centre and tourist attraction in Sudbury, Ontario, is to step down in May after 25 years in the post.

He joined Science North in March 1982 as director of development and became CEO five years later.

During his tenure, Science North expanded to take over the former Bell Grove Arena and convert it to a special exhibits hall, as well as adding the F. Jean MacLeod Butterfly Gallery and an IMAX theatre. Marchbank also led the development of the C$22m Dynamic Earth project that most recently added a digital Planetarium to the science centre's group of attractions.

Science North is currently closed until 5 March for both routine maintenance and an extensive renovation programme, although the IMAX theatre and Planetarium reopened on 14 January. Dynamic Earth reopened on 17 January.

The revamp includes complete renewal of the Northern Ecosystems exhibit on the third floor, the installation of a new 4D show experience in the Vale Cavern, and a new Climate Change Show object theatre on the fourth floor.
