Eiffel Tower 'more popular' than UK sites

New research carried out by travelsupermarket.com has found that the Eiffel Tower in Paris, France, has welcomed more UK visitors than "many" domestic attractions.

The study - conducted by Opinium in June 2011 - found that nearly half (47 per cent) of Britons had visited the iconic tower - the same amount that had visited Blackpool Tower.

London's St Paul's Cathedral (45 per cent); Edinburgh Castle (43 per cent); York Minster (37 per cent) and Windsor Castle (37 per cent) were among those to rank lower.

travelsupermarket.com's Bob Atkinson said: "It is surprising to see that the Eiffel Tower is more popular than many UK landmarks, but Brits can also take advantage of the plenty of wonderful and historic landmarks on their own doorstep."
