05 Jul 2011 Council backs Bridgend sports village vision BY Pete Hayman |
Bridgend County Borough Council (BCBC) has backed plans for the development of a new multi-million pound sports and leisure village on the site of a former prisoner of war camp. A special meeting of the full council on 4 July approved the Island Farm scheme, which had already received the backing of the local authority's planning committee in late June. The plans - comprising a 15,000-seat rugby league stadium and a 2,000-seat football venue with two additional pitches - will now go before the Welsh Assembly Government. A 5,000-seat rugby union venue with three outdoor training pitches; an indoor 4G training pitch and sports hall; an indoor 25m pool; and tennis facilities are also proposed. Plans for the Island Farm Sports Village are being led by HD Limited, a developer based in Bridgend. PJ Lee Architect has drawn up the designs for the complex. Close Window |
