Dreamland CPO public inquiry commences
BY Pete Hayman

A public inquiry into Thanet District Council's (TDC) bid to acquire Margate's Dreamland site through the use of a Compulsory Purchase Order (CPO) has commenced.

The local authority, working in conjunction with the Dreamland Trust, is proposing to create the world's first heritage amusement park comprising historic rides and attractions.

TDC planning projects manager Ashley Hills and Dreamland Trust chair Nick Laister are to give evidence on behalf of the council at the inquiry, which started on 10 January.

Meanwhile, the council has also decided to compulsorily purchase more land for its plans to bring the seafront Fort Road Hotel site back into use as a boutique hotel.

The hotel site was acquired through a CPO in December 2010 but is now looking to secure additional land in order to attract potential developers with space for parking and amenities.
