19 Jan 2012 SkillsActive to unveil Change Gear scheme BY Pete Hayman |
SkillsActive, the sector skills council for active learning and leisure, has announced that it is to launch a new scheme to help Armed Forces personnel pursue a career within the sector. An employment and training fair scheduled to take place at Guildford's Surrey Sports Park on 8 March will mark the launch of the organisation's Change Gear programme. The programme will offer specific career change support for those leaving the services, with the event to provide detailed information on employment opportunities across the industry. Other components of the Change Gear initiative will include the Explore Sport workshop to help those new to the sector and Train to Change, which will deliver the right qualifications. SkillsActive head of programmes Julie Evans said: "What we are hoping to achieve with Change Gear Employment and Training Fair is to look past the uniform to the person within. "Our sector has massive potential for growth and career development and therefore offers a wealth of opportunity for those entering it."
