24 Jan 2012 Green light for new Aberdeen stadium plans BY Pete Hayman |
Proposals submitted by Aberdeen Football Club and Cove Rangers Football Club for a new stadium and leisure facilities at Calder Park have been given the go ahead by councillors. Aberdeen City Council's (ACC) development management sub-committee backed the plans, which include a 1,500-capacity stadium for Cove Rangers to be built to the north of the site. A community facility to feature an indoor football arena; a sports hall; two fitness suites; and a gymnasium is also proposed. The building will also offer changing areas and a café. Meanwhile, the southern part of the site is set to boast six outdoor football pitches, of which three will be full-sized grass pitches. ACC's John Corall said: "It will be of enormous benefit to not just the professional and amateur football players, but it will also have significant social and sports benefits for the wider community."
