£4.1m overhaul planned for Essex centre
BY Pete Hayman

Castle Point Borough Council (CPBC) is to undertake a £4.1m refurbishment of Waterside Farm Leisure Centre in Canvey Island, Essex, after the scheme was given the green light.

The project was approved at a special cabinet meeting on 8 March, with work due to start in May. Morgan Sindall has already been appointed as the lead contractor.

Work will include a refurbishment of the dry side changing areas, sauna and first aid room; a remodelling of the wet side changing rooms; and an expansion of the fitness suite.

Most of the centre's external facilities will remain open throughout the duration of the work, although the swimming pool and associated facilities will close for the entire period.

CPBC anticipates that facilities such as the fitness suite, gymnasium and spinning room will be available until early 2013, before being closed for a temporary period.
