EUR8m boost for online collections projects

The Collections Trust has announced that European Commission investment worth EUR8m (£6.5m) has been secured in order to help museums share their collections online.

According to the independent UK organisation, the funding presents a "huge opportunity" for museums and archives across the country to share collections with online audiences.

The EUR3.8m (£3.1m) Europeana Inside scheme will develop open-source tools to enable cultural groups to manage the sharing and re-use of their collections online.

Partage Plus, a two-year initiative worth EUR3m (£2.4m), is set to digitise thousands of Art Nouveau objects, artworks and posters to be accessed through the Europeana portal.

Enumerate and Linked Heritage are the other projects in line to benefit from the investment, which the Collections Trust also said was a "milestone" in its international strategy.

Trust CEO Nick Poole said: "It is a recognition of our pre-eminent position in delivering complex projects on budget and on schedule and our role at the heart of some of Europe's most active cultural networks."
