According to the transport and travel workers' trade union, Transport for London (TFL) is planning to cut the museum's budget by £1.5m - leaving it "starved of crucial income". In a letter to the Guardian, TSSA general secretary Manuel Cortes; TV presenter Tony Robinson; and commentator Christian Wolmar called for the funding to be restored. However, TFL's Vernon Everitt said its funding to the museum will be reduced by £1.5m over a three-year period and allowed time for alternative sources of income to be found.
