06 Jun 2012 Leeds Waterfront Festival among national waterway award winners BY Pete Hayman |
Leeds Waterfront Festival has been named winner of the Recreation and Tourism category at this year's Waterways Renaissance Awards, which are now in their 10th year. Meanwhile, a restoration of historic narrowboat Mendip at the National Waterways Museum's Heritage Boatyard was awarded the Historic Environment accolade. Nearly 30 projects along canals and rivers throughout the UK were recognised at the 2012 Waterways Renaissance Awards, which are operated by the Waterways Trust. Trust chief executive Roger Hanbury said: "It is truly inspiring to see that, even in these very challenging economic times, people and organisations are continuing to work together to realise the benefits of our canals and rivers for communities across the UK."
