Le Méridien Hotels and Resorts has announced the launch of its first Algerian hotel as part of a mixed-use oceanfront development in the north western city of Oran.

Rockwell Group Europe have designed the Le Méridien Oran Hotel and Convention Centre, which is owned by Sonatrach and is located on a cliff overlooking the Mediterranean Sea.

The signature Explore Spa is among the facilities and is inspired by European spa traditions. It houses eight treatment rooms, a whirlpool, a Turkish Hammam and an outdoor pool.

Meanwhile, the hotel - with 254 bedrooms and 42 suites - also includes an all-day dining restaurant with open kitchen; an authentic Italian eatery; a fitness centre; and a lounge bar.

Vincent Gillet, global brand leader for Le Méridien and W Hotels Worldwide, said: "Le Méridien has long had a presence in Africa, and the opening of Le Méridien Oran is a key milestone as we celebrate the brand's strongest performance levels in its history.

"Since being acquired by Starwood more than six years ago, Le Méridien has undergone a comprehensive brand re-launch, and we are proud that Le Méridien Oran showcases many elements of the new Le Méridien brand direction."
