11 Jun 2012 US$300k boost for Scottish National Portrait Gallery's Photography Gallery BY Pete Hayman |
The Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation has announced funding of US$300,000 (£193,000) for the Scottish National Portrait Gallery's Photography Gallery over the next three years. As a result of the donation, the photography space at the recently revamped Edinburgh gallery is to be renamed the The Robert Mapplethorpe Photography Gallery. US-born photographer Robert Mapplethorpe established his foundation 10 months before his death in 1988. It has since supported exhibitions at a number of art institutions as part of its activities. National Galleries Scotland director-general John Leighton said: "This extremely generous grant from the Robert Mapplethorpe Foundation will help us to unlock the potential of these holdings and create new and engaging displays of international quality."
