Four synthetic clay courts open at Gloucester's Oxstalls Tennis Centre
BY Pete Hayman

Four new synthetic clay courts have opened at Oxstalls Tennis Centre in Gloucester, following a £168,000 investment supported by the Lawn Tennis Association (LTA).

The courts are thought to be among the first of their kind in the country and have also been fitted with floodlights to ensure year-round access. The centre is run by leisure trust Aspire.

Funding worth £125,000 was contributed by tennis' national governing body, supported by Sport England. In addition, the local authority invested £42,000 in the project.

Oxstalls Tennis Centre operations manager Gordon Aitken said: "The support from the LTA will allow Aspire to expand their programme for children and adults to increase participation all year round."
