Heritage Lottery Fund underlines commitment to digital heritage

The Heritage Lottery Fund (HLF) is to help the industry harness opportunities presented by emerging technologies as part of its new commitment to digital heritage going forward.

As part of its new five-year strategic framework for 2013-18, projects supported by the HLF will be asked to make digital content available free and to use a Creative Commons license.

Creative Commons is a non-profit organisation that facilitates the sharing and use of creative works through free legal tools and allows access content for non-commercial purposes.

Meanwhile, HLF has also altered its policy in order to fund standalone digital projects which meet its grant programmes criteria - including websites, DVDs or mobile applications.

HLF chair Dame Jenny Abramsky said: "In the fast moving world of digital, HLF wants to ensure the sector makes the most of harnessing important digital opportunities."
