![]() Image: How the new leisure centre will appear Plans for the development of a new swimming pool, leisure centre and ice rink in Romford, Essex, are to be put on display by Havering Council and Wm Morrison Supermarkets. A public exhibition is to be held between 19 and 21 July, which also includes proposals for a new supermarket on the site of the current ice rink in Rom Valley Way. Havering Council is selling the ice rink site to the supermarket operator in order to fund the new FaulknerBrowns Architects-designed complex, which is to be developed in Western Road subject to planning consent. A four-storey building will house a replacement ice rink, an eight-lane competition standard swimming pool, a learner pool and a fitness suite with studio, as well as a dance studio. A sauna and steamroom and a restaurant will also form part of the development. Work is to begin in early 2014 if approved, with completion scheduled for 2015. Havering Council leader Michael White said: "It is very important that we get this project right, and that it meets the needs of all those who will use the leisure complex."
