Olympic mountain bike venue to open to the public

Image: The venue will host London 2012 finals later this month Castle Point Borough Council (CPBC) has backed proposals that will see the London 2012 Olympic Games mountain bike venue in Hadleigh Farm, Essex being turned into a public cycling centre.

CPBC has given the green light for a planning application to construct two cycling tracks, a skills area and a visitor centre at the venue, which will host the London 2012 mountain biking events later this month.

As part of the development work post Games, the course will be adapted to make it safe for the public to use and to accommodate all skill levels of mountain biking.

In a statement, CPBC said the decision to keep the track open would provide "opportunities for people to more fully access, enjoy and appreciate the areas natural and historic environment".
