02 Aug 2012 Funding secured for Portsmouth's Theatre Royal revamp BY Tom Walker |
The final piece of funding for the planned £4m redevelopment of New Theatre Royal (NTR) in Portsmouth has been secured. NTR received a £350,000 grant from the Monument Trust and the Foyle Foundation, paving the way for work to begin on rebuilding the theatre's stage house, which was destroyed in a fire in 1972. The work, which will also include increasing the arts venue's capacity from 500 to 700 people, is set to begin in January 2013 with a completion date scheduled for summer 2014.
