New 'legacy gym' to open at County Durham community centre
BY Pete Hayman

A new 'legacy gym' - part of a joint initiative between Durham County Council (DCC) and the Changing the Physical Activity Landscape Project - is to be unveiled at Leadgate Community Centre.

Due to open on 18 August, the 32sq ft (3sq m) facility boasts nine pieces of equipment from Technogym and is the 13th gym of its kind to open as part of efforts to improve health levels.

It follows the success of the Wellness on Wheels scheme, DCC's mobile gym which travels around the county to provide communities with access to fitness facilities.

DCC community action officer Julie Lavery said: "We're not just aiming to keep people active, but also to embrace the spirit of London 2012 and inspire the future generation of young people."
