Leisure trust 1610 has commenced work on a £150,000 refurbishment programme at Castle Sports Centre in Taunton, Somerset, which will provide new fitness facilities for members. A new gym containing 29 cardiovascular machines from London 2012 supplier Technogym is to be created as part of the project. A wide range of free weights are also to be provided. Castle Sports Centre will house a temporary fitness facility for gym members until work on the refurbishment - and the new fitness suite - is completed in early September. Centre manager Graham Furze said: "The improvements to the gym means we can provide some of the best state of the art gym equipment for local people to train to the highest level." Non-profit trust 1610 - formerly known as Somerset Leisure - manages 17 leisure centres located on school sites throughout Somerset and Devon.
