06 Sep 2012 Swimming pool yet to open at revamped Cannock Leisure Centre BY Pete Hayman |
Cannock Chase Council (CCC) has reassured residents that "everything is being done" to open the swimming pool at Chase Leisure Centre - the final part of a £6m refurbishment. The pool was originally due to reopen on 8 August, but the local authority said issues arose after the pool was filled and heated that led to cracked tiles, which affected its waterproofing. As a result, the pool has been drained and a survey carried out to determine the cause of the problem. Lead contractor GF Tomlinson has brought in additional specialist advice. CCC culture and sport leader Christine Mitchell said: "We're incredibly disappointed with the delay to the swimming pool but I can assure residents that everything is being done to get the pool open and ready for use as quickly as possible. "The £6m refurbishment has transformed what was a tired, ageing building into a fantastic 21st-century facility. The swimming pool is the final piece in the jigsaw and our contractor is working hard to deliver this for us." A Profiles Health and Fitness Centre with 150-station Technogym fitness suite was unveiled as part of the revamp in February and a fitness/dance studio, a sports hall and treatment rooms opened last month (August).
