Image: The awards are now in their second year The winners of the Members' Choice Health Club Awards for 2012 have been announced during an awards event at the Hilton Metropole hotel in Birmingham. Around 500 industry professionals gathered for the gala dinner - held for the second time during the Leisure Industry Week (LIW) - during which winners were announced for 31 different categories. Everyone Active was given the award for the best national chain, beating David Lloyd Leisure and énergie Fitness for Women for the title. Pure Gym was both named the best budget chain as well as best medium chain (10-30 clubs), with Fit4Less (silver) and Fitness4Less (bronze) making the final three in the budget category. Pure Gym Southampton was named best club in the UK (for clubs with more than 2,000 members), narrowly beating Pure Gym Aberdeen (silver) and Everyone Active Spelthorne Leisure Centre (bronze). énergie Fitness for Women, Eastbourne won the Club of the Year award for clubs with less than 2,000 members, edging Thornton Hall Country Healh Club (silver) and Crown Spa (bronze). Independent operators also shone on the night, taking 11 gongs in total - including four regional golds - while Nuffield Health and Fusion Lifestyle both bagged a brace of regional golds. More than 400 entries came from a mixture of independents, public leisure centres, hotel clubs and some of the industry's best-known brands.
