Garland continues ten-pin expansion

Ten pin bowling operator Garland Leisure has continued its rapid expansion with the acquisition of two new sites.

The company acquired its first Bowlplex in Yeovil and also added another venue in Hereford to its portfolio - bringing the number of sites in its estate to 34.

The freehold centre in Hereford is the first freehold venue to be acquired by the fast expanding UK leisure owner-operator and comprises a 17 lane tenpin bowling centre, bar, café and function area in addition to an outdoor crazy golf course.

Garland has announced plans to undertake extensive refurbishment at the site, which will see the lanes and function rooms significantly upgraded.

Meanwhile, the Bowlplex in Yeovil is located within the Yeo Leisure Park and houses an 18-lane centre. The leisure operator has agreed a 25-year lease with the landlord.

According to Mehdi Afshar, Garland Leisure CEO, the deals are part of the company's plans to establish itself as the UK's largest ten pin bowling operator.

"Having acquired unwanted centres from Tenpin, it is exciting that we have been able to do the same with Bowlplex making us the second largest tenpin bowling operator in the country in under two years," he said.

"Our strategy of strong marketing and acquiring centres at current market rents has enabled the company to grow and this acquisition takes our portfolio up to 34 centres with a further two deals due to be announced shortly."

Specialist agents Edward Symmons acted on behalf of Garland Leisure on the deal.
