11 Oct 2012 Legacy funding for Lincolnshire sports centre BY Kath Hudson |
Sleaford Leisure Centre in Lincolnshire has been awarded £150,000 from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities Fund, to deliver a London 2012 legacy of increased mass participation in sport. This is a significant boost to the centre, which is undergoing a year-long £2.85m refurbishment to convert the 140-year-old pool into a modern deck level facility, incorporating a toddler splash zone, gym and dance studio, along with upgrades to the entrance and changing rooms. North Kesteven District Council chief executive, Ian Fytche, said this would enable the council to meet more of the aspirations expressed by the community of how they want the centre to meet their needs over the next 20 years. "Not only does this funding announcement allow us to deliver a better centre for the people of Sleaford and contribute more to the town's regeneration, but it also allows the council to spread its limited resources further in promoting healthier lifestyles across the whole district," he says.
