23 Oct 2012 Canvey Island leisure centre hits delays BY Kath Hudson |
The refurbishment of Waterside Farm Leisure Centre in Canvey Island, Essex, has been delayed following the discovery of asbestos and that the roof needs to be replaced. The 1970s centre, which is undergoing a £4.1m revamp by Castle Point Council will now need a further £1m to carry out the essential building work. It also means the launch date will be delayed by three more months until August 2013. Work will include the refurbishment of changing rooms, an expansion of the fitness suite, as well as extensive interior decoration, a new community centre and conference hall and the addition of an open plan glass entrance.
