05 Feb 2013 Strathspey Railway celebrates 150th anniversary of Highland Main Line BY Tim Nash |
![]() At Strathspey Railway, the heritage railway located in the Cairngorms National Park, we will be celebrating in 2013 as it is the 150th anniversary of the Highland Main Line, the line which was first constructed in 1863 as a transportation link for those based in the most northern areas of Scotland to the south. This 150th year will begin with diesel rail services offered in February, before steam engines return to the tracks later in March. A range of special events will be held at the Railway throughout the year, before the height of the anniversary on the weekend of the 3rd, 4th and 5th August. Deborah Quinn of Strathspey Railway says: "2013 will be a double celebration, as the Railway will also be embracing the year of 'Natural Scotland'. We will be working closely with local organisations to make sure that our visitors can make the most of local facilities and offerings (on and off board) of the stunning surroundings that this railway line has been blessed with. March will see the launch of our 'Out The Window' guides which detail some of the natural specialties that are visible from trips on board our trains." Close Window |
