New £6.3m Bridgwater swimming pool opens in Somerset

The new £6.3m Bridgwater pool at the Trinity Sports and Leisure complex in Bridgwater in Somerset is the latest in a series of leisure developments in the South West.

Managed by the leisure trust 1610, the facility includes a six-lane 25m main pool, separate 13m learner pool and a café.

The centre, which was funded by Sedgemoor District Council, follows on from the £2m Trinity Sports and Leisure Centre that opened in November 2011.

In the past 12 months 1610 has been involved in the opening of three other major leisure developments in the South West, including the £800,000 Preston Sports Centre at Yeovil in Somerset, the £8m Dorchester Sports Centre in Coburg Road as well as the Robert Blake and Elmwood Leisure Centre in Bridgwater.

The chief executive of 1610, Tim Nightingale said that the new Trinity Sports and Leisure Pool will be a great asset for Bridgwater and crowns an extraordinary and fast moving year for the leisure trust.

"The new pool is eagerly awaited in Bridgwater and is the jewel in the crown of the Trinity Sports and Leisure Complex which has already been very successful since its launch in 2011.

"We heard a lot in 2012 about providing for the next generation and that is what we at 1610 are very proud to have been involved with during the past 12 months and being a part of that Olympic legacy in the South West."
