Sport Advisory Group launched for Wales

Sport Wales has announced the formation of a new Sports Advisory Group (SAG), designed to help shape the future of sport in the country.

The first of its kind, the group of leading figures from business, health, communications, education and leisure will be tasked with developing new strategic thinking to help broaden sport's appeal amongst the less active.

The development represents one of Sport Wales' key corporate objectives: to draw insights and expert thinking from other sectors, to help ensure a bright future for Welsh sport.

Each of SAG's 13 members have been credited with bringing innovation to their respective fields, and share a passion for establishing a more prominent place for sport within every community.

Members include mental skills performance coach Andy McCann; Janie Frampton, director of the Sports Officials Consultancy; Cricket Wales CEO Peter Hybart; and former Yale College principal Paul Croke.

Supported by Sport Wales, the group will report on its findings and recommendations to the Sport Wales Board and government officials. The findings will seek to benefit the whole sector, providing guidance for improved delivery against a backdrop of continued reductions in resources.

Sport Wales chair, professor Laura McAllister said: "This group has been born out of our Vision for Sport in Wales, and our commitment to better invest in strategic planning.

"Focusing specifically on the long term future, the group will look to propose shifts and areas of rethink within the sector, to ensure that we remain a strong and united sporting nation."
