15m euro sports village for the deaf launches in Dublin

A multi-million euro state-of-the-art sports and social complex for Ireland’s deaf community has officially opened in Dublin.
Deaf Village Ireland, which is located off Ratoath Road in Cabra, features a sports centre and swimming pool along with administration, social, educational, heritage and religious facilities.
The board of the Catholic Institute for Deaf People (CIDP) set up a new company Sportsco in June 2011 to manage and deliver the project, which will be open to the wider community.
John Sisk & Son, member of the SISK Group was the contractor for the village, which also houses the Life Long Learning Centre for parents and teachers of deaf children that will have research capabilities.
Sign language services will be available via the new centre, educating people on the different types of deafness, the variety of deaf sports including the deaf Olympics, and Irish sign language.
