Madame Tussauds Tokyo opens to the public

Merlin Entertainments has opened its 14th Madame Tussauds attraction in the Japanese capital Tokyo.

The launch is part of the group's expansion in Asia and is the fourth Madame Tussauds in the region, following sites in Shanghai, Hong Kong and Bangkok.

A further Madame Tussauds is scheduled to open in Wuhan, China, later this year.

The Tokyo site spans 2,000sq m and was designed by architects Kay Elliott in conjunction with Merlin Entertainments' own in-house development and creative team Merlin Magic Making.

As with all Madame Tussauds around the world, the waxworks at the Tokyo attraction are unique to its location, reflecting the culture, people, history and colour of the City.

Paul Moreton, creative director of Merlin, said: "Madame Tussauds is one of our most popular and important global attraction brands - particularly in Asia Pacific - one of Merlin's key development areas.

"Madame Tussauds Tokyo is the fourth Madame Tussauds to open in the region and we plan for two more in China."
