Aberdeen city centre to undergo £107m redevelopment

New look plans have been revealed for Aberdeen’s city centre on the site of the former City Council headquarters

Muse Developments has been selected as Aberdeen City Council’s development partner for the £107m joint project, which will see the former St Nicholas House site and Broad Street in Aberdeen transformed to include 175,000 sq ft (16,258sq m) of sustainable offices, and mixed-use leisure facilities.

Valued at £5.6m, the leisure amenities in the mixed-use development will include a new civic square between the scheme and Marischal College, plus a 125-bedroom, four-star Marriott hotel and space for retail and restaurants.

The project, to redevelop the site of the the local authority’s former corporate headquarters, will be fully-funded by Aviva Investors and has an overall value in excess of £107m.

Muse's regional director for Scotland, Steve Turner, said: "The Marischal Square proposal fulfils the vision of the city's Bon Accord master plan by providing a new civic square, creating a fitting setting for Marischal College, as well as delivering a vibrant new mixed-use development in keeping with Aberdeen's justifiable position as one of the UK's leading business destinations.

"Marischal Square has the potential to make a long-term impact on the local economy and it is vital the city has the right mix of office and commercial space to capitalise on the opportunities that will arise.”
