Europe’s first triple-launch coaster debuts in Germany

Germany’s Holiday Park has opened a new themed area based on vampires and zombies – with Europe’s first triple-launch rollercoaster at its undead heart.

Baltimore, US-based Premier Rides designed and manufactured the new €8m ($11m, £6.57m) attraction, Sky Scream, which features three magnetic launches. “There are no moving parts except for the train. We use magnetic technology that allows us to launch the vehicle forward, to then launch the vehicle in reverse, and again to launch it forward a third time even faster,” said Premier Rides president Jim Seay.

Magnetic braking has also been incorporated at both the top and bottom of ride, which features vertical twists going up and down, loops and 360-degree horizontal twists. It reaches speeds of up to 100km per hour.

Holiday Park’s 2014 season began on 11 April. "Our goal is to inspire and attract adrenaline fans to the park. We wanted a signature attraction that would have impact,” said Steve Van den Kerkhof, CEO of the park’s parent company Plopsa Group.

The park is located in the city of Hassloch, in south west Germany, and receives 1.1 million visitors per year.
