World’s longest interactive boat ride opens at PortAventura

Spanish theme park PortAventura has opened what it is calling the world’s longest interactive boat ride.

Built by Germany’s Mack Rides, Angkor: Adventure in the Lost Kingdom offers visitors the chance to shoot targets with individual water guns, while getting splashed.

St. Louis, US-based PGAV Destinations designed the new ride, including thematic storyline and content, site planning, and ride layout and programming.

The attraction covers an area of 10,500sq m (113,021sq ft) and features 14 boats that can hold up to eight people each, with an hourly capacity of 726 people.

Sergio Feder, president and CEO of PortAventura said the ride was “the most immersive interactive boat ride on the planet” and established “a new, expandable themed zone” for the park. The ride is located in the Barcelona park's China land, but features an Angkor Wat-inspired temple.

“The hidden path of an interactive boat ride is a new concept we introduced with Angkor,” said Josh Rodriguez, attraction designer at PGAV Destinations. “We still show just enough of the ride from the main walking path to intrigue and excite guests, but the rest remains a surprise until you’re on the boat and deep within the hidden jungle.”

Valerio Mazzoli Studios completed the final theming package, while PortAventura’s design and engineering department managed the project execution.
